Abstract
Flexible development control units must ensure that new combustion processes can be tested easily and reliably on real engines. Combining a highly flexible injection control unit with appropriate utility software, cylinder pressure sensing hardware and real-time evaluation provides the basis for turning new ideas into practice. This paper describes the integration of a cylinder pressure sensing facility into the flexible FI2RE development control unit. The engine control unit algorithms are provided with the cylinder pressure levels in real time. The thermodynamic parameters are computed in a quality comparable with that of commonly used indication systems.
