Abstract

Nowadays passenger transport represents one of the major aspects of modern civilization, as it offers the possibility to travel, to communicate, to perceive and assimilate. The paper aims at presenting the real situation of public transport within Craiova city, using both traffic information achieved in dedicated studies and further data obtained according to the routine reports of the management information system for the main traffic routes. In order to obtain a more accurate analysis of the public transport efficiency we have used calculation models for quantifying routes by modeling specific parameters, aiming therefore at the optimization of transport technologies (by designing and developing specific algorithms in Microsoft Excel and Matlab environments). For the realization of the activities management we have proposed several innovating solutions as: the editing of various traffic graphics, choosing the most appropriate one; judicious planning of material and human resources; management based on complex reports, rapid reconfiguration of public transport in case of sudden traffic jams.

These solutions do not solve entirely the difficulties of the public transport (which is defined as the sum of all operations undertaken by all the transport means when moving passengers into space. Such process has its own features which derive from the nature of the transported objective- the passenger and his/her specific requirements). The targeted solutions, which are moreover the result of our research studies, can be accomplished especially by a structured development and improvement of the public transport activities, namely, by acquisition of new vehicles for the transport agents, by rehabilitating and/or producing of equipment and automatic control of traffic dispatching, by reducing operating costs i.e. environmental protection.
