Abstract

The paper presents a new method for measuring the engine valve rotation for a direct acting valve train. Firstly, the importance of the engine valve rotation and methods for generate this movement are presented pointing out the advantages and the disadvantages of each solution. The test rig and the equipment used for measuring the engine valve rotation are described in the second chapter of the paper. Also in this chapter this new method of measuring engine valve rotation by using a high speed video camera is described compared to other solution used until now. In the paper main section is presented the testing procedure and the results obtained by varying some parameters like camshaft speed, oil temperature and oil pressure. Finally, the conclusions of the experimental investigation are described noting that the rotation movement of the valve represents an amount of the influence of those factors.
