Abstract
Model based diagnosis can be seperated into two parts: residual generation and residual evaluation. A residual generator is a system that takes process inputs and outputs and generates a residual. The purpose of the residual generator is to generate the residual signals and the purpose of the residual evaluator is to evaluate the residuals and generate a fault decision. This paper is an analysis of the residual treatment: generation and evaluation.
