Abstract

Abstract

The new method of virtual testing static amphibious characteristics for the amphibious combat vehicles is presented in the paper. The virtual testing is conducted on numerically generated solid models, before the prototype was made. The application of this method in the development phase or in the modernization of existing vehicles makes the concept modelling of vehicle amphibious type more efficient.

Standard codes define static amphibious characteristics for vehicles. Those characteristics are: waterline, displacement, flotation reserve, draft, trim (endwise inclination), heel (sideways inclination), and metacentre.

The position of the centre of gravity and the mass to volume ratio are the basic parameters for a vehicle to be an amphibious.

This method was experimentally proved on the existing combat vehicle and his modification with the turret.
