Abstract
This paper presents the added value of using the road national transport model in Romania for traffic studies dedicated to the new infrastructure projects. The current case study is the traffic study for the by-pass Târgu Mureş. One aspect that has been analysed in the traffic study for the by-pass Târgu Mureş has been the estimation of the programme of building two main motorways: Transilvania and Târgu Mureş – Iaşi for time horizons 2030, 2035 and 2041. From this analyses it has been concluded that the impact of building the two motorways is significant for:
- Traffic flows for each category of vehicles on national roads to/from Târgu Mureş
- Traffic flows attracted by the by-pass
- Time benefit for each category of users
- Reduction of fuel consumption
- Emission of NOx, CO2, HC, VOC and PM10
The modelling process has been carried out using the VISUM 12.0 transport planning software tool, considering the national road transport model up-dated in year 2011.
