Abstract
Prototypes are usually machined on special machines. In this case scrap is not a big issue and 100% dimensional check is nothing special. But it is completely different when the ideas of the designer have to be implemented in a serial production (capacity +1000000 parts/year). Now the scrap must be reduced to minimum because it is not welcomed since it costs money and capacity. The article presents concept of the line for mass production of 3 different brake drums types, starting up the line, how to achieve stable production, to assure quality and capacity and finally what certain decisions of the designer (customer) mean on the line from space and financial point of view.
