Abstract

Today, more than ever we need to consider the justified demand for greater environmental protection. That means creating the appropriate structures and measures to reduce fossil energy consumption while simultaneously reducing the generation of harmful emissions.

As a consequence more sophisticated technologies are needed that are targeting on both:

- preventing the formation of harmful gases and substances that are related to energy conversion in vehicles, power plants and other engine applications

- achieving better energy efficiencies to reduce the generation of the green house gas CO2

Nowadays more and more emerging countries with large population numbers like China, India, Russia and others are demanding increasing amounts of energy and more mobility.

Mobility is one of the key factors for the growth of national economies. At the same time it is becoming more and more important to develop clean and efficient vehicle technologies.

Fulfilling current and defining future lower emission legislations all over the world is a mandatory factor for a safe and healthy environment.
