Abstract

There are several tools to evaluate the deformation energy absorbed by a vehicle during a crash, and there is a growing demand for more precise and more powerful tools. In this work, we express the deformation energy as a function of the Energy Equivalent Speed (EES). The EES is a difficult parameter to determine, it can be estimated by purely empirical methods. The objective of this paper is to propose a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model to estimate the EES in the case of frontal crashes. Once our model is designed, we can predict the EES of a damaged vehicle with a precision of about 5.31 km/h, from information about the impact (intrusion, deformation, direction of impact …) and about the car (make, model year, weight…).
