Abstract:

Automobile is a symbol of modern society products and automotive industry is one of the biggest in the world. On the other hand, automotive industry is a significant consumer of raw and energetic resources as well as an important participant in degradation of environment. The focus of the research in this paper is systematic solutions for the treatment of end of life vehicles, mainly passenger and light commercial, which in the European Union make around 95% of the total car fleet. Complexity and heterogeneity of the problem arising from the appearance of end of life vehicles conditioned the involvement of a large number of participants in the processes for their solving. These facts as well as the importance of social aims achieved through re-utilization, mainly recycling of parts and materials from end of life vehicles demand a systematic, multidisciplinary approach. The paper shows an analysis of some solutions applied in developed countries that are directed to achieving limits set by EU Directive for ELV, as well as system management and its material and non-material flows. The author intended to determine the limits of end of life vehicle recycling systems through analysis of the role of participants and through evaluation of their position in the system. This research gives a brief overview of the condition in Serbia&Montenegro regarding the problems with cars that are no longer used. The role of technological operators is described in the paper, whose involvement in the processes secures the treatment of end of life vehicles.
