Abstract
Abstract
The contribution of any individual measures or any particular new safety items used in vehicles to the road safety improvement is almost impossible to quantify. For example, traffic accident statistics do not say explicitly how much ABS system contributes to road safety. That is one of the reasons why a comprehensive accident data analyses was made in order to define the most significant situations in w hich road accidents develop. Based on the conclusions of this reasearch, a number of braking tests w as conducted, in order to enable estimations of braking performance improvement of a vehicle equipped w ith an ABS compared to the one not equipped w ith this system, under driving situations similar to those in w hich majority of traffic accidents occur.
