Abstract

In order to identify the asymmetric deployment of passenger airbag, the outflow characteristics of inflator chamber which includes inflator, housing and diffuser plate was analyzed. The modeling procedure which calculates inflator outflow variables from the tank test data was set up and applied to get boundary condition for a CFD analysis. In results, we analyzed transient characteristics of gas flow and the effect of flow inclination. To verify the flow results, diffuser outflow values were applied to the airbag chamber as input condition for deployment analysis and a good correlation with test results was obtained. CFD analysis could give qualitative information about initial deploying behavior effectively.
