Abstract

The HSDI diesel's market share in Europe has grown from 14% in 1990 to 33% in 2000 and will continue to grow to about 48% in 2007. Both the achievement of future emission legislation and the propagation of HSDI diesels outside Europe demands exhaust aftertreatment devices. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are seen as the first choice of exhaust aftertreatment devices both because of the introduction by PSA and the avoidance of environmental air borne smoke/particulates. The subject paper deals with the system integration work fir DPF necessary for production intent. The process including system layout, simulation/modelling, development (hardware/ECE function structure), calibration (engine test bed and vehicle) is described and examples presented.
