Abstract

The numerical simulations and experiment have been conducted to clarify the flow fluid around automobile front-pillar. Lighthill's acoustic analogy is applied to analyze the aerodynamics noise generated by the flow. Finite difference method and finite element method are applied to the numerical simulations. The flow fields around front-pillar obtained by numerical simulations agree with those by experiments for two cases with different front-pillar shape. Moreover, the distribution of acoustic source predicted by finite element method is consistent with the experiment result. Based on these results, it is concluded that numerical simulation can predict automobile aerodynamics noise with relatively high accuracy.
