Abstract
Currently, dummies are used o evaluate the potential for neck injuries under both inertial and direct loading. However, low severity head impacts tests with volunteers and a Hybrid III dummy showed differences in the moment-angle response between relaxed human volunteers and the Hybrid III. In this study, numerical modeling will be used to gain more insight into the response of the human neck to head impacts. The first objective of this study is to validate the MADYMO human model with detailed neck using the volunteer tests. The second objective is to use this model to study the effect of higher severity loading conditions and muscle tension on the moment-angle response.
