Abstract
A car-following model has been constructed for the generation of traffic stream in a driving simulator. The formula for the calculation of the acceleration rate of a vehicle is composed of two terms; both of them take sensitivity-stimulus form. The first term uses relative speed stimulus and was derived from a macroscopic traffic stream model. The second term uses distance headway stimulus and was originally derived to complement the first term. The model was verified by simulations. It was found that the model provided realistic car-following behavior and yielded stable traffic stream even in the presence of hard disturbance.
