Abstract

Human upper extremity consists of shoulder and elbow joints has high risk of injury during the airbag deployment. Bony fractures such as humerus, ulna and radius and also joint dislocations are the typical injury patterns. In order to investigate injury mechanism as well as to predict extend of the injury in quantitative manner, a finite element model of human upper extremity, H-UE, has been developed. H-UE, which is one of the sub-modules in H-Model, generic finite element human model for the occupant safety simulation, is validated with in-vivo and in-vitro test results for the range of motions in joints and bone fracture
