Abstract

Dimethyl ether (DME) is an alternative fuel suitable for compression ignition engines. Its properties are quite different from diesel. In this paper, DME injection characteristics such as injection quantity, injection rate, and spray characteristics were investigated by using an electromagnetic DME injector. Owing to the structure of the DME injector, its injection quantity and injection rate varied obviously with the pressure difference between the fuel and chamber. The DME spray angle was wider than that of diesel and the DME vaporizing process was quicker compared with that of diesel.
