Abstract

Diesel spray characteristics were investigated with aid of a constant pressure spray chamber. The diesel spray was injected at different air pressures and temperatures. Three different injector nozzles were investigated. The nozzles had all one orifice placed in axial direction were the orifice diameter was 0.080 mm, 0.090 mm and 0.180 mm. Mie scattering was used to determine spray angle and penetration length. The results show that the penetration length increases with the nozzle orifice diameter. It is shown that the spray angle is a weak function of air density and equal for all three nozzles.
