Abstract

Automotive Catalytic converter systems have been used all over the world to remove harmful automotive emissions without the definite mechanisms showing progressing process in detail until now. This paper will focus on the failure mechanisms of UCC(Underfloor Catalytic Converter system) and design concept for more durable catalytic converter system based on many different analyses in views of operating conditions, characteristics of catalysts, thermal deformation of clam shell, mat erosion, and ring off crack in a given catalytic converter system configuration. For this study, 143 samples were evaluated in real vehicle durability tests, engine dynamometer tests, and analyzed in terms of catalytic activity etc.
