Abstract
UV-curable coatings are certain to play an important role in the coating industry's future, in order of overcoming solvent emission limitations and energy savings. In addition to these benefits UV-cured coatings show improved scratch resistance and resistance against chemicals. One of the most important requirements for a broad use of UV-curable coatings in the coating industry is that coatings are stable against degradation caused by atmospheric influences. Those weathering conditions lead to a degradation of the polymeric binder. Novel bis-acylphoshinoxides photoinitiators in combination with hydroxyphenyl-s-triazine UV-absorber and a HALS show both a very good curing behaviour and an improved weatherfastness over a long period of time.
