Abstract
In this study a coupling of MBS and FE models including car compartment, dummy and the restraint system has been used to study correlation between the essential elements of driver restraint system and injury related parameters.
This model was validated by comparing results from the computer simulations and sled test. A series simulations and parameter analyses have been conducted based on the evaluated model. It was found that the performance of the restraint system is mainly influenced by both the size of the ventilation hole and the capacity of the gas generator, and they also interfered with the seat belt-use and its level of load. It reveals that in order to restraint the driver in a crash accident intelligently the crash conditions and the essential factors studied in this paper have to be tuned together to achieve the maximum safety performance.
