Abstract
We have developed a lane keeping support system that reduce the drivers workload by assisting in the execution of driving operations. This system uses a CCD camera unit to recognize lane markers on the road ahead and to calculate the host vehicles lateral displacement from the center of the lane. An electronic control unit calculates the amount of steering torque needed to keep the vehicle in the center. A steering actuator supports to steer the front wheels while driving the straight road on the expressway. This paper presents the outline of this system, main technology, and the effect.
