Abstract

Gear type transmissions applied for automotive to day has certain limitation on the range of transmission ratio and the number of transmission stage. This research developed a gearless variable type transmission and studied its characteristic performance. The characteristic of traction force between tires and road, the maximum vehicle speed, the transmission ratio and stages that can be developed were studied as the characteristic performance of transmission. The result show the comparation of performance of gear type transmission and gearless type transmission for vehicle with Diesel and gasoline engine. Gearless type transmission could provide variable ratio of transmission and number of stage, which could provide traction force -speed characteristic that approach the ideal.
