Abstract

Combustion efficiency of an engine depends on its compression ratio and the ignition quality of the gasoline used. The use of gasoline of poor ignition quality in modern engine reduces engine performance and increases fuel consumption. The ignition quality of gasoline depends on octane number and motor octane number.

The correct research octane number of gasoline supplied in a country must be in accordance with octane requirement of car populations in the country. This paper presents the results of a study concerning the effect of octane number quality of gasoline on engine performance and fuel economy.
