Abstract

A control-oriented nonlinear dynamic engine model is developed to represent an SI engine over a wide range of operating conditions. The model consists of intake manifold dynamics, fuel film dynamics, and engine rotational dynamics . The time-varying transport delays inherent in the dynamics of engine are included in the engine model. The accuracy of the model is evaluated by the comparison of the simulated and the measured data obtained from enginedynamometer experiments with 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine. The results show that the simulation data and the measured data are in good agreement. The model can be used for development of hardware in the loop simulation(HILS) as well as design of a model-based engine controllers. The nonlinear engine model and a simple lambda controller is implemented by using MATLAB/Simulink for example, and this example shows the efficient procedure of a model implementation and a controller design.
