Abstract

In the design of rear suspension for SUV(Sport Utility Vehicle) there would be multitude of apparently conflicting factors towards which the designer struggles to progress. It will be helpful to co-work with main suppliers before proceeding detail design to avoid the aforementioned conflicting factors such as cost, weight, good packaging and part productivity, including ride and handling. In order to develop high performance rear suspension, because the handling of the vehicle is much more influenced by the rear suspension, we suggest rear multi-link suspension and tire model to the suppliers. After benchmarking the competitor vehicle, they modeled them with ADAMS template , and we combined them with the existing full vehicle model which has old rear suspension for comparing their handling performances. Furthermore we standardized handling evaluation procedure using several index. By doing that we can optimize the suspension type for the new vehicle in the early design stage.
