Abstract

A full-car model consisting of primary, cabin and seat suspension is established to study the ride comfort performance of a kind of semi-active suspension using ER fluids damper. A cylindrical ER damper is used to tenuate the seat vibration due to the external excitations from the cabin floor. A sliding mode controller is formulated to control the seat vibration based on the Bingham model for electrorheological fluid materials. The responses of passive and semi-active suspension are obtained through using of the MATLAB tools. The performance of the semi-active suspension, as well as passive suspension, is undertaken to demonstrate the advances of the system and the practical feasibility of the proposed seat suspension.
