Abstract

The land lack of landfill and resources today is serious problem together the destruction of the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect. And vehicles have great influences during over all lifetime from cradle to grave. So most of governments have a concern in vehicle. Especially EU members take much interest in vehicles and regulate the vehicles for environment. EU directive 2000/53/EEC on ELV (End of Life Vehicles) is one of these regulations and has articles as like ELV collection, treatment, reuse, recycling and etc. For vehicles' recycling, EU is making a type approval directive that is including the recycling article pursuant to EU ELV directive. The main requirement of EU recycling type approval is high recycling quotas, recyclability rate to a minimum of 85% and recoverability rate to a minimum of 95% by mass per vehicle, on new vehicles. Only the type-approved vehicles in accordance with this directive can be put on the EU market. EU recycling type approval dedicates the ISO 22628(Road vehicles – Recyclability and Recoverability – Calculation method) as calculation method on recyclability and recoverability rates. Viewed in standardization of each manufacturer's different calculation method, this international standard is good. However vehicle's materials and structures are very various. It is difficult to make detail standard that is available all the vehicles on each manufacturer. So there are some uncertainties in ISO. Thus this study firstly explains the ISO 22628, EU recycling type approval specification and additionally describes global vehicle manufacturer's calculation method for the calculation guidance.
