Abstract
The engine front cover to be discussed in this paper has the engine mount bracket installed at the torque roll axis. Such feature of the engine front cover requires considerations of supporting the engine weight and reducing the vibration transfer from engine to vehicle, compared to the previous engine front cover which was not unified with the engine mount bracket. Furthermore, this engine front cover itself suffers the external load through the engine mount bracket originated from the road while a vehicle is being driven. This paper first discusses the vibration characteristics of the unified engine front cover from the vibration analysis results. Then structure analysis is performed to estimate the stress level around the area at which the engine mount bracket is attached. Based on the structure analysis results, this paper finally presents how to evaluate the fatigue life through the numerical fatigue analysis.
