Abstract

This study introduces specific ways of research on Korean motor vehicle emission tests. It also suggests ways to improve vehicle cut points and tests. Humidity and dilution effect should be treated properly, according to test conditions, and the test method should be stated specifically. From a technological perspective, this does not pose a problem, as the procedure does not require special equipment. The in-use vehicle cut point is applied to all gasolineand gaseous-fueled passenger cars manufactured after 1988. This standard application is wider than that for other types of vehicles. As cut points for newly manufactured cars have been enhanced several times, such a wide application is not capable of managing in-use cars. The result of this study suggests ways to improve ASM 2525, the test for in-use gasoline- and gaseous-fueled vehicles in Korea and the cut point for that test.
