Abstract

The increasing concern of particulate matter (PM) on human health has created a need to measure not only the mass concentration of particles but also the size distribution of the fine particles. The objective of this paper is realtime measurements of the diesel particulate matter using a portable electrical low pressure impactor(P-ELI). First, we designed and performed evaluation of the P-ELI using an electrical method. Then, the tests were performed on a Common-rail DI diesel engine to measure exhausted particulate matter. We measured particulate matter at various engine operating conditions. When the total injection quantities were divided into the ratio of 25-75, 50-50 and 75- 25%, PM were measured on the condition of same torque by increasing dwell angles.
