Abstract

Piezo injector system is proposed as one of most important parts for future emission regulation. Piezo injector of 1800bar rail pressure was applied to current 2.0 diesel engine successfully to improve emission and performance. To develop Piezo injector system, optimal injector nozzle and turbocharger was adopted initially. Better smoke and fuel consumption characteristic of Piezo injector than one of solenoid injector was confirmed at same performance compared with solenoid injector at part load and full load. This smoke and fuel consumption reduction comes from Piezo injector characteristic that injection duration was shortened by fast needle movement. But combustion noise of Piezo injector should be developed more considering its fast moving characteristic of Piezo injector. Boost and EGR gas control governor was also needed to improve stability for Piezo injector system and this will be done on next development. Piezo injector characteristic was preferable for further performance and emission development.
