Abstract

Air flow and oil mist in crankcase have an effect on the motoring torque. In case of insufficient air flow area in crankcase, the motoring torque increases because air flow in crankcase made by reciprocating motion of piston is disturbed. Also motoring torque increases at the condition of high oil mist concentration in crankcase. Especially at high engine speed motoring torque increases because the rotating components like piston, connecting rod and crank have to rotate in oil mist. In this study the effect of air flow area on motoring torque was tested by increase of oil quantity and the effect of oil mist on motoring torque was tested by increase of oil flow rate.
