Abstract

The reliability of vehicle wheel bearing should be guaranteed since the bearing is directly related to driver's safety. Also, the light weight design of the wheel bearing is important for vehicle performance improvement. In this study, comparison tests were executed to get more practical durability test sequence. A new endurance test sequence was proposed. Load history of a taxi which is used for passenger's transport in Seoul, is selected for the reference driving load sequence. The proposed reference sequence was decided by acceleration test, standard load history generation, and actual durability test results. The comparison test results show that the current standard mode is 1.5 times severe than the proposed driving mode based on endurance test. Therefore, the safety design factor which is referenced by the proposed driving mode is more practical than the current driving mode. The factor of 1.2 is suggested for the Seoul taxi’s driving mode.
