Abstract

Diesel engines have recently equipped common rail injection system which allows the higher injection pressure and engine performance to meet the more stringent emission regulation and customer’s demand. Consequently, the noise level of diesel engines became worse. Therefore rough combustion noise makes sound quality deteriorated in vehicle compartments. The influences of multiple injections stages to improve the combustion noise for a passenger vehicle with Common-Rail Direct Injection(CRDI) system have been analyzed. According to the alterations of parameters as duration of separation, quantity of pilot injection, fuel rail-pressure and main injection timing, effects of the combustion noise have been analyzed at idle and part load conditions. We have developed a 1.5L diesel engine for a passenger vehicle with applications of multiple injections to improve the combustion noise which can meet the Euro4 emission regulations.
