Abstract

GTL has a potential as a clean alternative diesel fuel due to the advantage in emission reduction particularly, soot reduction. But it has some different physical properties from conventional diesel fuel. Thus, in this study, for the purpose of comprehending GTL’s characteristics in spray combustion, we performed the visual investigation of the sprays and flames for GTL and diesel fuel in a simulating vessel of diesel combustion. Effects of various parameters or conditions such as injection pressure, chamber temperature, and pilot injection on liquid-phase fuel length and auto-ignition instance were investigated. It is concluded that GTL has a little shorter liquid-phase fuel length, so there is less contacts between liquidphase fuels and flames compared to diesel fuel.
