Abstract

The rear brake moan has been general with rear drive axle assembly. Theses days the torsion beam type rear suspension is used in a small sedan, moan occurs frequently. But the moan phenomenon in torsion beam suspension system is slightly different from rear drive axle system. The cause of moan is not only the brake stick slip but also vibration characteristics of rear brake mount structure. Because there are more complex structure vibration modes below 400Hz. First we have to find the moan mechanism. In order to define moan mechanism it is important how to build the idealized finite element simulation model. From the conceptual study of vibration mechanism in brake system the important mode has to be determined to build moan mechanism in the torsion beam rear suspension system. Engineering experiences and intuition are also important to determine moan mechanism. The main factor for moan should be determined to solve the moan problem. The simulation is performed to find the important mode from several modes in the suspension and brake system, which could be related to moan, and simulation results were compared with experimental result.
