Abstract

Using a crank pulley, instead of a crank gear, directly attached to a cooling-fan clutch and a crankshaft is considered effective not only for lowering rattle from gears, but also for saving the cost and weight of an engine. Calculated torsional vibration characteristics do not correspond well with measured ones if a cooling-fan clutch attached to a crank pulley is modeled by a conventional method using masses. This paper reports a method for modeling a cooling-fan clutch. After that, exciting torques for crankshaft torsional vibrations are discussed.
