Abstract

A Common-rail Direct Injection (CRDI) system for high speed direct injection (HSDI) diesel engines was developed to meet stringent emission regulations. The injector control performance in CRDI diesel engines influences engine performance due to its effect on fuel consumption, emissions, and power. For these reasons, accurate injector control is one of the most important parts of CRDI engine control. In this study, a driver circuit for the 2-way-valve Commonrail (CR) injector, which uses a voltage booster for boosting the injector drive voltage, is developed. The boost converter is composed of three parts: inductor, switching circuit, and capacitor. In this proposed driver, injector solenoid coil is used as the inductor for the voltage booster circuit, and also the injector driving voltage, peak current, and hold current can be flexibly changed by the developed injector driver. An experimental study was carried out to evaluate the performance of the driver.
