Abstract

This paper is intended to introduce the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique in engine performance development. In order to get the good engine performance, the intake system designs is very important. The well designed intake system is one which have lower flow energy losses and can use the pressure wave within the pipe system effectively. In order to get the well designed intake system, we utilized the various kinds of CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics)techniques in design stage, which are steady 3D CFD, unsteady 1D CFD and unsteady coupled 1D-3D CFD. We have shown how well these CFD results corresponded with test data. Based on various CFD results, we found out how much and where the flow energy losses occurred in the intake manifold, also we found out how we utilized the pressure wave in intake system in order to get the good performance.
