Abstract

As the solution for a protection of global warming and environment, several types of hybrid vehicle have been developed and launched.

Internal combustion engines play a principle role even in a hybrid system. It is not too much to say that the performance of hybrid vehicle depends on the optimization of the internal combustion engine.

Improvements of fuel economy, emission reductions, vehicle power performances, and noise vibration reductions can be optimized by the combination of an engine and a hybrid system.

Toyota considers that hybrid systems have a high potential to improve a fuel efficiency and emission, with great advantages for the internal combustion engine.
