Abstract

Since passive safety design is one of the most important parts of the car development process in order to produce safe vehicle, the crashworthiness of longitude member plays a decisive role concerning its significance. A well designed longitude member could absorb more than 55% of the total impact energy, thus to keep the integrity of the passenger room, lower the deceleration and protect the passengers efficiently.

Recently, for the sake of better crashworthiness, engineers set abduct structure in the front of longitude member to induce the deformation course. An in-depth research about the effect on frontal impact performance caused by typical abduct structure of longitude member was carried out in this article. Based on the principles summarized from this investigation, crashworthiness optimal design was accomplished on the new mini passenger car Snow Tiger.
