Abstract

Two types of Direct Injection Diesel engines, 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV, have been launched. These KD engine series feature central direct injection, 4 valve/cylinder and DOHC technology and comply with European step 3 exhaust emission limits and about 20% reduction in fuel consumption could be achieved. The Common-Rail system has been adopted for the first time in this commercial vehicle category. And kinds of countermeasures have been applied to improve the noise and vibration performance both on the hardware side and on the engine control side. With excellent reliability and an attractive cost of ownership, these KD engines bring innovation to the commercial vehicle.
