Abstract
The TAC SafeCar Project is currently being undertaken with the aim to evaluate a suite of in-vehicle intelligent transport system technologies that have the potential to significantly reduce road trauma. The project will evaluate the impact of these technologies on driver performance and safety, as well as assess drivers attitudes towards and acceptance of the technologies. Research data will be collected on the road using 15 specially equipped fleet vehicles with 45 dedicated drivers over a 15-month period. Data using an advanced driving simulator will be collected in parallel. This paper describes the technologies being evaluated, the phases of the project and the progress made to date.
