Abstract

Thermodynamic analysis has been performed on autothermal reforming (ATR) and water-gas shift (WGS) assisted ATR based on theoretical model. Through solving the Gibbs free energy equations of the model, the equilibrium products of ATR and WGS assisted ATR process are determined for a large range of air fuel ratio (A/F) and molar water to fuel ratio (W/F). Results show that coupling ATR with WGS can reduce the CO concentration by 31.91% and increase H2 concentration by the same amount. A relationship between the WGS equilibrium temperature and amount of CO consumed is also established in this paper. The study shows an essential approach for cleaning up CO and increasing H2 in the product of autothermal fuel reforming process.
