Abstract
To protect the environment, before a new model of vehicle is launched or imported, they should be tested (called Approval Test) to ensure it meets the local emission legislation. Approval Test following European regulation is applied in many countries and Vietnam will adopt this starting with EURO II on the first of July 2007. This article focuses on test cycle and emission testing system for heavy duty vehicles following European regulation. In addition, it shows results of emission testing on diesel engine D243 with ECE-R49 test cycle, which is carried out at laboratory of the Department of Internal Combustion Engine, Hanoi University of Technology (HUT) as an initial application.
