Abstract

Abstract

Today, automotive technology have developed extremely, especially automotive electric and electronic systems. Therein, ECU-Electronic Control Unit is the most a complex electronic circuit and controlled by programming. It receives continuously signals from various sensors, processes and sends signals to control optimal operation of ignition and fuel injection systems. Thus, to inspect an ECU, involves high-priced dedicated devices and software. The objective of this report is to make ECU tester with cheaper cost for using in automotive service stations and vocational institutions. The following issuses in the thesis “Researching and manufacturing ECU tester” will be carried out:

1. Experiments to determine pulse shape of basic input signals such as: Crankshaft position sensor (CKP) and Camshaft position sensor (CMP) signals of Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Ford vehicles.

2. Research operation of ECU, which have equipped on above-mentioned vehicles.

3. Select ways to produce simulative signal pulse of CMP and CKP sensors.

4. Construct control block schema and algorism.

5. Using microcontroller, LCD and electronic units, which are easy found in Vietnam market to design and produce electronic board of the tester.

6. Control operation of device by program in Assembly language.

To carry out diagnosis experiments on engine ECU of Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Ford vehicles with the manufactured tester and make comparison with the results of Snap-On 1500 digital oscilloscope.
