Abstract

In the previous works, we have established the mathematical model to calculate the combustion process and the soot formation in the Diesel Direct Injection engine. The model has been evaluated by experimental data from the single cylinder engine Lombardini with the transparent combustion chamber. This is an one-dimensional model which was established by the conserved scalar model of diffusion combustion and Tesner-Magnussen model for soot formation. Because the combustion process in Diesel engine is effected by the combustion-chamber shape, so putting the experimental engine results into application real engine is difficult to generalize. For this reason, some experimental researches which are implemented in the combustion chamber of real industrial engine are necessary. In this paper, we chose the Mazda WL car engine as a research object. The injection and combustion process, temperature distribution and concentration of soot in combustion chamber are researched by the optical method with Visio-scope AVL. The combustion chamber is kept in original condition. Supplying light and taking photos in the combustion chamber are implemented by the endoscopes system with small flash Xenon assembled through inner side engine chamber. The result shows that the reappearance of high soot concentration in pre-chamber is the cause of soot increase in exhaust gas of Mazda WL engine.
