Abstract

Experiments have been carried out to assess the usefulness of DME fuel-air mixtures for the application of engine combustion by evaluating the values of burning velocity and quenching distance. Especially the micro-gravity technique achieved in freely falling chamber is used to examine the burning velocity on lean side of mixtures of DME fuel-air. The results obtained in the study are as follows (1) the burning velocity of DME fuel-air mixture is nearly the same as that of methane-air mixture at all the equivalence ratios investigated, (2) the quenching distance of DME fuel-air mixtures is nearly the same as that of methane and propane and () from these results it may be suggested that the application to the engine combustion of DME fuel is not so impossible.
